FOUR supporters of cancer charity We Hear You (WHY) took on an epic 24 Peaks challenge in the Lake District last weekend on 8th to 10th September and raised £5,000 and counting!
Longstanding WHY supporter and fundraiser Rachel Clark was joined by Sophie Davies, Ella Cosgrove and Matthew Pfeiffer. The group tackled 24 of the highest peaks in England in a 24-hour period, over two days.
Rachel Clark said, “24 Peaks challenge- done! There was not a lot of sleep and having trained in wind and rain, the weather really tested us too…it was officially too hot, even at sunrise. Along with the heat, we had thunderstorms and an absolutely terrifying emergency evacuation from Helvellyn Ridge, which is an experience I hope never to have again.
“Our incredible guides saw us to safety and looked after us and we’re so proud to have raised a fantastic amount for WHY. Thanks to everyone who donated for their fantastic support – it definitely saw us through some very tough moments. As always, my mum was on my mind, as the inspiration for all my fundraising. Please keep the donations coming: head to www.justgiving.com/fundraising/matt-24peaks-WHY, no donation too small to make a difference to WHY.”
Fundraising and communications manager Gemma Wilkes said, “Every charity relies on the kindness, hard work and ingenuity of supporters and we’re so lucky to have someone who embodies all three and is absolutely tireless in championing WHY and our work. Sophie, Ella, Maff and Rach, we hope you had a fantastic, endorphin-fuelled time and that there was a cool breeze at the top of those peaks! We’re especially pleased you weren’t struck by lightning.
“We have lots of amazing challenges in the calendar for 2024, so if you’re thinking of signing up and you’d like to do it for WHY, visit wehearyou.org.uk /fundraising to see what’s on offer – we’d love to have you on board.”
The challenge took place in Cumbria, with further dates planned in 2024. The team trekked 12 hours a day for two days, covering around 28 miles and 12,500 feet of altitude. To sponsor the team visit, www.justgiving. com/fundraising/matt-24peaks-WHY.
