Frome student Lottie Ball’s fundraising efforts continue.
On Sunday and Monday, 10th and 11th August, Lottie and her singing teacher Hannah Lockwood attempted to do a 24 Hour Sing-A-Thon at The Cheese and Grain, to help raise money to send Lottie to the prestigious theatre college Laine Theatre Arts in Epsom.
The challenge started at 9.00am on the Sunday with a few vocal warm ups to make sure that they were going to be able to sustain their voices for the rest of the day. Lottie and Hannah set themselves the challenge of singing at least one song from every score book, which ended up being three tables piled with musical books!
From 12.00noon a few of Hannah’s students: Ian Jones, Georgie Matthews, Charlotte Clark, Tom Taylor and Millie Weare came to join Hannah and Lottie in the challenge and sang a selection of songs from all different genres, including musical theatre, folk, acoustic and pop songs. Many of the students then joined Hannah and Lottie later to perform a concert.
Lottie said, “A massive thank you to all of Hannah’s students for coming along and supporting and singing for us.
“Another big thank you to Jamie Knights our pianist who played for us for about 12 hours! We honestly couldn’t have done it without you and thank you for being an absolute star for staying with us for that long!
“In the evening we performed a concert to an audience showcasing a selection of the songs that we had learned throughout the day. It was so lovely to see so many supportive people in the audience, so thank you for coming along and supporting us.
“Thank you also to everyone who came down throughout the day and supported us as well. Your kind donations are hugely appreciated and your applause and kind words really helped us when it got tough!
“After midnight we decided that we were going to sing along to musical theatre CDs as we wanted to give everyone a rest from working so hard. We continued to sing through the night, and myself and Hannah decided mutually that at 5.00am our voices were starting to feel the strain and we didn’t want to cause any vocal injuries so we decided to call it a day.
“Altogether we managed to sing for 20 hours with a total of 232 songs sung.
“A massive thank you to Karen Harley for letting us use the Cheese and Grain for the sing-a-thon and for staying up with us the whole time. I can’t thank you enough for the amount of effort that you put in to the event.
“I would also like to thank my singing teacher Hannah Lockwood for coming up with the idea and for doing the 24 Hour Sing-A-Thon with me. I honestly couldn’t of done it without your determination and encouragement!
“I would also like to thank all of the lovely people who helped on the day including my mum Kim Ball who made a delicious homemade cake stall and for all of your hard work throughout the whole of the fundraising process.
“The final thank you is to Steve at Frome Printing Company for designing and printing the leaflets for the event.
“I am so proud of everyone who took part in the sing-a-thon and grateful for all of their support. I could not of done it without all of your help. Through the event we managed to raise about £600, which is going to help so much, so thank you to everyone who donated.”
