PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) is offering a reward of up to £3,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for abusing and abandoning a dog in Frome.
Bella, previously known as Zena, was found on Queen’s Road by Cornpop Critter Rescue with severe injuries, including a prolapse, which vets believe was likely caused by blunt force trauma. Reports suggest that Bella had been abandoned three days before she was found, during which time she suffered from immense pain and was unable to urinate or defecate.
Bella has a weak heart, but vets decided that operating to try and repair the damage was the best option. They have confirmed that she was sexually abused by a human.
“It’s imperative that any community faced with cruel and callous acts such as these take measures to find the culprit and bring them to justice,” says PETA vice president Mimi Bekhechi. “Animal abusers are a danger to everyone: they take their issues out on whomever is available to them – humans or other animals – and must be caught before they act again.”
The RSPCA is urging anyone with firsthand information about the incident to call its appeals line on 0300 123 8018 and quote incident number 01224116.
