VETERAN Merseybeat rockers The Searchers will be playing at Frome Memorial Theatre on Saturday 18th June as 2016 sees them celebrate 50 years of touring.
With classic hits such as Sweets For My Sweet; Needles and Pins and Sugar and Spice, The Searchers will be playing numerous well-known favourites and reminiscing about their decades long career, which bloomed in Liverpool alongside The Beatles in the 1960s.
When the beat boom of the mid-sixties subsided, many bands simply disbanded and got on with their lives as best they could, but not The Searchers.
Their dogged determination stood them in good stead for the momentous nostalgia revival which lifted them again to national and international prominence.
In 2008 they found themselves back in the charts when the compilation album The Very Best Of The Searchers climbed to number eleven. It was only prevented from entering the top ten by Old Blue Eyes himself, Frank Sinatra.
The distinctive jangle of the twelve-string guitar and rich and vibrant harmonies remain a most important feature of their sound. The eternal popularity of this legendary group ensures that the demand for concerts is always there but the real reason for maintaining that exhausting work rate is the best reason of all – they truly love what they do.
The show will start at 7.30pm on Saturday 18th June at the Frome Memorial Theatre, with tickets priced at £20. Tickets can be booked at the theatre, via the box office on 01373 462795, or online at www.fmt.website
