Musicians plan 24-hour fasting and jamming Gaza fundraiser

Ben Camp and Ben Jude

Two musicians are leading an ambitious 24-hour ‘fast and jam’ marathon in Frome later this month to raise funds for medical aid in Gaza.

Organisers Ben Camp and Ben Jude will be joined by three other musicians performing live and fasting for the full 24 hours, supported by a wide range of over 25 local bands, soloists and artists who have generously offered to perform throughout the day and night.

The event is being held on Sunday 21st to Monday 22nd September and will be video live-streamed.

Ben Camp, from Frome, said the idea was born out of frustration and compassion.

“Like the majority of people who have been watching the humanitarian situation in Gaza deteriorate over the last two years, we have felt powerless in the face of what feels like an inevitable tragedy,” he said. “One of the most sickening facets of the war has been that 1,400 medical personnel have been killed and that hospitals are being routinely bombed. It has meant civilians already suffering indescribable horrors have no-one to turn to in their greatest need.

“The charities we have chosen either support medical staff already in Gaza or send in doctors from outside.  We will also offer a donation stream to a trusted local hero who has been sending money to families and individuals directly in Gaza.

“Although the discomfort we will face is nothing compared to that suffered by the people of Palestine, I thought fasting would be appropriate in solidarity with those who are currently facing famine, a man-made disaster which is a result of Israel’s aid blockades.

“Five of us will be fasting and present at the venue for the full 24 hours. We have also recruited a wide range of musicians, bands and soloists (a list of 25 and growing) who will be playing half to one-hour sets, interspersed with improvised jams featuring the five of us, along with other musicians to keep it fresh.

“If there are any intrepid musos out there who want to join us and help keep us awake, please get in touch!”

A livestream link, donation details and the full performance schedule will be posted on the Jamfast for Gaza 2025 Facebook page closer to the date. All proceeds will go to medical aid charities working in Gaza, with the final allocation based on the greatest need at the time.

“If you’d like to join in, search for and message us on Facebook at Jamfast for Gaza2025, or email at JamFast@Proton.me” added Ben.
