NUNNEY’S ever-popular Street Market and Fayre takes place for the 41st time in succession on Saturday 6th August around the moated 14th century Nunney Castle.

Rated one of the best village fêtes in the country by The Times, Nunney Street Market and Fayre has raised over £40,000 for local charities and community groups since 2010.

The majority of this money benefits projects like the children’s playground, local heritage and community groups.

Nunney Fayre secretary Jeremy Gaunt said, “Last year’s event broke all records, with over 10,000 visitors. It’s the biggest fundraiser for our community, so we are working hard to make this year’s Nunney Street Market and Fayre even bigger and event better – a great day out for the whole family.

“We are delighted to welcome lots of new stallholders as well as popular one who have attended for decades. ‘Scales and Tails’ animal handling experience and education with snakes and lizards was a huge hit last year – particularly with children – and I’m glad to say they’re back.”

Nunney Street Market and Fayre will have over 120 stalls this year and will be officially opened at 10am by comedy legend John Challis, best known as Boycie in Only Fools and Horses.

As well as the huge number of stalls, Nunney Street Market and Fayre offers lots of food and drink for all tastes and budgets. Live music in front of the castle includes the Frome Swing Band and French folk group the Mimonettes.

“The roving bands are a huge hit every year,” Jeremy continued. “So the Frome Street Bandits will be touring the fair again. Mells Community Choir will perform on the acoustic stage. Magic shows for children, the Bathampton Morris Men and crafts demonstrations ensure a great day out for the whole family. Nunney Village Hall will host an arts and crafts market.”

The fayre will be open until 5pm, when an after-party will take place at The George.

Entry is free. Parking costs £5 per vehicle, which is spent on insurance, music, marketing, licenses and other necessities for putting on the event. Disabled parking is available at Nunney village hall.

Full details for Nunney Street Market and Fayre are available at www.visitnunney.com

The fayre is organised by Jeremy Gaunt on behalf of the Nunney Community Association. Whereas similar events have large committees, Jeremy prefers to work alone. The event has become so successful in recent years that he has been asked to advise other village fêtes and country fairs as far away as Staffordshire.
