A fundraiser has been launched by local volunteers to provide a special Christmas Day for residents and families from all backgrounds who are struggling financially, as well as anyone who feels lonely around that time of year.
The appeal aims to raise £3,000 for the annual Christmas Get Together, which will provide 200 two-course meals with all the trimmings, along with individual gifts, transport to and from venues, carol singing, games, entertainment and company on the day.
The Christmas Get Together began 18 years ago when the community of Frome wanted to create an event on Christmas Day for people who would otherwise be on their own. It is run by a collaboration of local people, businesses and volunteers who donate their time.
Assistant coordinator at Fair Frome, Rebecca Harrison, said, “For the last few years we have seen a growing need for our service, both welcoming guests in person on the day and delivering festive meals directly to people’s homes if they are housebound or unable to join us for any reason.
“Money raised will go towards the costs of providing food on the day. Guests who have a meal delivered at home will also receive festive extras to make their day extra special.
“This time of year can be challenging for all kinds of reasons, so we welcome individuals, couples and families from all backgrounds who are struggling financially, as well as anyone who feels isolated or lonely around that time of year.”
