Spring has sprung for family support charity Purple Elephant, with a series of endurance-based fundraising events, including a military-inspired bootcamp and the Bath Half Marathon.
Starting in the dark at 6am on 22nd February the military-inspired bootcamp in Beckington raised £2,000. 110 participants, including children took part in a wide variety of classes.
Led by Optimum Health and Sports Therapy practitioner Lizzie Daschner with fellow fitness fanatics Emily Denham and Mitz Harrington, supporters cheered participants on, donated and joined the raffle to ensure a fun day for all.
Local traffic management and road-surfacing company CH Contracting (South West) Ltd match-funded the move-athon event and have donated a further £2,000.
Purple Elephant Service Manager Sue Willis said, “We were delighted by so many people taking part and very grateful to Mes Amis deli and others who baked much-need refreshments and, in addition to our heartfelt thanks to C H Contracting South West for their generosity, we would like to give a big Purple Elephant trunk callout to local piercing artist Leigh Evans for taking part in and completing every single one of the classes – the full 12-hour move-athon from start to finish.”
The fundraising doesn’t stop there, as on Sunday 15th March, a team of 10 local runners will take part in the Bath Half Marathon to raise funds for the charity.
Sue Willis said, “With grants and funding so much harder to get in recent years and the needs of and pressures upon, all families increasing year on year, every single donation and charitable gift counts more than ever. We are delighted that we have a fantastic team of 10 and would be so grateful to anyone who can take the time to head to our website to sponsor the runners as they take on over 13 miles of action to help us keep our year-round vital support services going for local families facing disadvantage.”
