A new co-working space has opened in the Westway Shopping Centre.
Westway Workspace has been created by Frome resident Diana Miller, who set out to restore a place where freelancers, remote workers and small businesses can work together in the heart of town.
The project has turned what was once an empty and neglected space into a light-filled loft with private studios, coworking desks, meeting rooms and communal areas, all designed to support the town’s growing community of independent professionals.
Diana said, “We wanted to create somewhere where kind and mindful people could come together to work; a space that feels calm, creative and welcoming.”
The transformation of the loft was a major undertaking, involving months of work to clear, restore and redesign the previously unused space.
Diana said, “Today, the loft retains its industrial character with exposed steel beams and natural light, while incorporating modern facilities including soundproof phone booths, meeting spaces, showers, lockers and bike storage.”
The workspace also celebrates local craftsmanship. Diana said, “Local artist Lizzi has contributed artwork to the building, while Dresher Fabrications designed and built the distinctive corten steel entrance door (combining safety and art). A friend is crafting our meeting room table. Hopefully, over the years we will get to invest in more local craftsmanship.”
Mayor Anita Collier recently visited the new space; Diana said the visit meant ‘a great deal.’
“When we show people around, we are often blown away by their reaction. Many people say they had no idea such a beautiful space existed above the Westway,” Diana added.
Westway Workspace is now welcoming enquiries from freelancers, creatives and small businesses interested in coworking desks or private offices. More information can be found at www.westwayworkspace.co.uk or via Instagram @westwayworkspace.
