Members of a community space on Vicarage Street say they are ‘disheartened’ by recent criminal damage at the centre.
The police were called to an incident of criminal damage at The Bennett Centre on Vicarage Street at around 11.30pm on Sunday 22nd March.
Windows and paving slabs at the centre were damaged, and two girls, believed to be in their mid-teens and wearing dark jackets and blue jeans, were reportedly seen in the area at the time of the incident.
The Bennett Centre is a popular community space in the heart of Frome. It is currently undergoing a renovation to add much-needed disabled access to the yard and cloister.
A member of the committee, Toby Whitty, said, “It’s really disheartening, especially as we were hoping to use the slabs and the window as part of a bid for a Lottery grant to help with the renovation of the yard and cloister area. We were already left £1,400 out of pocket when the glass company supplying the new window went into liquidation, so this is another blow.
“We’re taking stock, and the insurance will cover much of the damage, but repairs will undoubtedly put a big dent in the money set aside for the ongoing renovation. It is a big setback for a non-profit community organisation trying to provide a community space for the town.”
Enquiries into the incident are ongoing, and any witnesses, those with information, or anybody with CCTV or other footage from around the time of the incident are asked to contact the police on 101 quoting reference 5226079216, or complete the online appeals form at https://shorturl.at/ND8y6.
