Frome Stars make winning start to new league

Frome Stars 52-49 Hucclecote Hurricanes

Wowee, the time has come for Frome Netball Club to start a brand-new season in a brand-new league after clinching promotion last season to Regional League 3 for the first time in the club’s 75-year history.

We’d waited many years for this moment and felt both filled with excitement and trepidation as we stepped onto court.

Starting strongly, Frome had an instant turnover from Freya in GD, setting the scene for a dominant performance throughout the first quarter.

We welcomed new combinations in the shooting circle, with Olivia Grant making her debut in GA.

The second quarter reflected Frome’s confident start and despite some strong interceptions from Hucclecote, Frome defence continuously challenged their shooting circle, adapting to maintain our lead.

At half-time we brought on some impact players and the atmosphere on court remained just as electric, a testament to our strong cohesive team.

In the last quarter, Hucclecote came back at us and at one point brought the score level, with five minutes to go. Frome, as determined as ever, kept their heads, making some great turnovers and keeping possession to edge in front and run down the clock with excellent teamwork and skill across the board.

We’ve come into a new league with a lot to prove and The Stars should be so proud of themselves for putting in such a fantastic 60 minutes of netball.
