The latest 24/7 publicly-available defibrillator (PAD) in the Friends of Frome Hospital community defibrillator programme, has been commissioned at Frome’s Asda supermarket.
The PAD unit, the 23rd in the ‘Friends’ community-wide network, has been sponsored by Persimmon Homes, who are currently building 450 homes at the adjacent Edmund Park Estate.
Derek Trick, project leader of the Friends of Frome Hospital PAD programme said, “We had ear-marked to have one of our defibrillators installed in the vicinity of Edmund Park as the estate developed, with the Asda store being the easily accessible focal point in the area. Again, the ‘Friends’ are delighted that two key players in the community, Persimmon Homes and Asda, have fully co-operated to make sure that we had an ideal location in this enlarged and busy community area.”
The Friends of Frome Hospital are planning another public CPR/defibrillator awareness session in the springtime. About 1,000 people have attended previous awareness sessions. Also, CPR sessions have been recently given to 300, year 7/8 students at Oakfield Academy and in conjunction with Tytherington-based Creative Aquatics, CPR training will continue with students at Selwood Academy starting this month.
