FROME-based company, Storm Board LLP, which recycles waste plastic and turns it into strong weather-resistant boards, has teamed up with national company Hoard-it who supply internal and external hoardings for the construction industry.
Storm Board’s managing director, Nick Stillwell, said he was delighted with the new link and looks forward to a long and sustainable partnership. He also has high hopes that their joint effort could play a small part in the fight against plastic being dumped in our oceans.
Hoard-it, whose headquarters are in Wombwell, South Yorkshire, with a southern base in Bristol, specialise in environmental hoarding solutions, which are re-usable and recyclable and ideal for use on construction sites, inside and out. Their hoardings comprise easily-installed blocks and robust steel upright supports and allow for numerous configurations without the need for digging or any risks to services.
Instead of using wood, glues and formaldehyde to produce sheets like plywood, chipboard and MDF, Nick devised a process and designed machinery to make sheets of construction boards out of waste plastics that would otherwise go to landfill or incineration. Some of the boards are already in use at Centre Point and Tottenham Court Road in London and Westgate shopping centre in Oxford.
Nick began recycling plastic 13 years ago and now works with a team of five, which is in full production on the Vallis Way Trading Estate in Frome and is looking forward to working with Hoard-it, which shares his philosophy.
“It’s great to be working with a company with similar beliefs, ideals and convictions and with so much talk and publicity about plastic bottles, bags, toys and other plastic rubbish ending up in the oceans, we can hopefully work together to play some small part in putting at least some of this dumped waste to good use.
“All our hoardings and products are recyclable and/or re-usable, so there is no danger of creating any problems for future generations, said Nick.”
