FROME Community Lottery celebrated their 21 years of supporting projects in Frome and the local area on Tuesday 5th October, with a tea party and presentation in the Town Hall, attended by more than 50 local residents.
Frome Community Lottery was founded in 2000 with the aim of supporting the development of community facilities in Frome and its rural parishes. Funds are raised by local residents joining the lottery with a £1 weekly stake (or more) giving them the opportunity to win cash prizes of up to £25,000.
The trustees give out the profits to local organisations on an annual basis, with a round of grant applications. Over the past 21 years, the lottery has given out over £117,000 to more than 75 organisations in Frome and the local villages. Many people in Frome have won prizes, with five winning £1,000.
All the funds given out to organisations come from the profits of the community Lottery and the trustees saw the celebration event as an opportunity to thank all those local people who support the Lottery, whilst also giving them a chance to find out more about the projects which have been supported. The organisers were particularly pleased to welcome a group of people who have consistently supported the Lottery for 21 years.
Representatives of some of the organisations who have benefitted from grants were also present, ranging from Harry’s Hydro and the Frome Festival, to Frome Town Band and the Window Wanderland. Those attending enjoyed a cake made by Brendan Lynch, Great British Bake-Off 2012 finalist, who lives in Frome.
