A GROUP from Frome Collegians was given a massive boost by Frome Lions ahead of their charity climb of Mount Kilimanjaro, which they are undertaking this week.
The Lions club presented a cheque for £5,000 to go towards a £36,900 target the group has set out to raise for the Motor Neurone Disease Association. The cheque was presented just days before they left and was raised at the Lions’ annual charity gold day held at Orchardleigh earlier this month.
Lions president Chris Bailey Green handed the cheque over to some of the group taking on the challenge including Ade Marchment, Michael Harding, Malcolm Pagett, Jordan Lawrence, Lee Stone and Jason Lusty.
In total nine people from Frome Collegians started their journey to the summit of the largest mountain in Africa on Saturday 1st June and hope to have completed the challenge by Monday 10th June.
The money is being raised in memory of their friend, Alistair Banks, who had coached for many years at the Collegians before succumbing to motor neurone disease. Nearly £28,000 has already been raised from a variety of events.
