The runners take to Frome’s roads.

HUNDREDS of runners took to the streets for the Frome Half Marathon on Sunday 20th    July, and after the success of this year, there are ambitious plans to keep making the event bigger and better.

Neither organisers or runners were fazed by the heat, and over 700 runners finished one of the four races taking place – the half marathon, 10k and 5k and the junior 1k

Thousands has been raised for the event’s selected charity, Frome Activities and Sports Trust  – with individual runners raising much more for their chosen causes as well.

Georgie Starkie, from the Frome Half Marathon organising committee said, “The organising committee would like to thank all our sponsors, marshalls, helpers and of course all runners who supported and made this year’s race another astounding success. The total number of participants far exceeded the past two years, causing the race entries to be closed earlier than scheduled. Whilst from an organisation point of view it was a great response, it did amount to many applicants being disappointed. With this in mind, the committee will make application for the race numbers to be increased for next year.

“We never stop thinking about how important the event is for everyone concerned –  runners, local businesses and the townsfolk and visitors. We can always improve and will strive to do so in 2015.”

This was the third year the event has been run, and organisers believe it has the potential to grow and grow. Next year’s date has been set for Sunday 19th July 2015. So far it is planned to have 1,000 places available for runners next year, meaning it could once again beat their record for most participants and most finishers. There is a limit of 425 places for the half marathon, 425 for the 10k and 150 for the 5k.

Entries are now open via www.fromehalfmarathon.co.uk
