Green Wednesday’s: Frome returns to Rook Lane on Wednesday 10th September and this month’s film choice is causing a bit of a stir.
The theme for the evening is ‘Energy’ and audience favourite at the Sundance Film Festival 2013, ‘PANDORA’S PROMISE’ will be shown along with a live Skype Q&A with Academy Award nominated director Robert Stone.
High profile environmentalists such as James Lovelock (Gaia) are turning to Nuclear as the only viable option for mankind’s energy needs, so the team behind GW:F believe this fact alone is reason enough to examine and discuss the film. The Anti-Nuclear side are not happy though and threats of protesting and/or abstaining from attending the event have been made believing that the event is one sided.
GW:F are keen to stress that the event is balanced and open. Guest speaker for the evening is Frome resident, author and Professor of Physics at Imperial College London, Keith Barnham, who shall be discussing his latest book ‘The Burning Answer’.
Professor Keith Barnham is passionate on how Solar energy can provide the world with much of its energy needs. Also previous tenant of Hinkley Point and siding with the anti community is Lin Hawkins who will be exhibiting her beautiful oil paintings of UK Power Stations.
Everybody is invited to attend whether pro, anti or on the fence. The world is full of differing opinions, it can be a challenge to meet and discuss passion openly especially on topics such as this, but GW:F are hoping a fair platform can be created to discuss and also to listen to others (whether you agree or not).
Food on the evening will be provided by The Old Bakery Supper Club, serving delicious West Indian Fish Cakes. On the Thursday evening after the event there will be a panel discussion/debate; venue and times TBC.
GW:F is a new, non-profit organisation for Frome whose aim is to offer an open platform for ideas and discussion around sustainable living, society and the environment, and green issues.
