Frome’s annual Agricultural and Cheese Show has been described as the ‘biggest and best show yet’ as thousands flocked to the iconic event, now in its 136th year.
Visitors came from all over the UK to taste hundreds of types of cheese, browse the stalls and watch the ringside entertainment.
Show chairman Martyn Brake said, “How can I describe this year’s Frome Show if I don’t say it was the one of the best ever?
“There were visitors streaming on to the showground even while some of the stand-holders were still setting up on Saturday morning and many of them were still there as the final event on the programme came to an end.
“We had hundreds of cattle, sheep and goats in the livestock competitions and with the re-designed and extended Livestock Village I think it’s safe to claim we’re now one of the biggest one-day agricultural show in the region.
“The Cheese Pavilion, in many ways the heart of the show, was packed with visitors admiring the cheese and other dairy products entered for the Global Cheese Awards – and there was a truly international flavour from many entries to challenge the judges’ palettes – and picking up hints and tips from celebrity chef Jean Christophe Novelli.
“And the air in the Fine Foods and Local Food halls was full of the wonderful mix of scents and aromas that always draws visitors, while entries for the horticulture and home and handicraft competitions drew admiring gasps all day. Now for a deep breath and to start planning next year”
On the Village Green the Knights of the Damned gave a breathtaking display of mediaeval jousting in a tournament which climaxed with the dramatic thundering of hooves as the knights attempted to unhorse each other. From the past to the future as Titan the Robot strolled around meeting and greeting visitors to the show. The Livestock Village also proved popular as it become a temporary home to hundreds of the finest cattle, sheep and goats in the country.
Following the success of this year’s event attention has already turned to next year with Saturday 12th September 2015 already announced as the date.
