Frome Half Marathon raised £10,500 for charity

The spandex shorts may have been put away for the winter and the medals have been hung proudly over mantelpieces throughout the West Country and beyond, but the joy of the Frome Half Marathon, 10k and 5k lives on through the colder months thanks to the fantastic charity fundraising efforts on the day and a contribution from the runners’ entry fees.

The organisers say, “The fantastic event, now a permanent fixture in the town’s calendar every July, saw the streets packed with runners and supporters, and raised £10,500 in 2015, with much of this donated to local charities.

“Among the local causes to have benefited are Positive Action on Cancer, a Frome-based charity that provides professional counselling to those affected by cancer; The Pod Charity, which offers entertainment for children in hospital; and the Make a Wish Foundation, which is supported by Dillon Chapman.

“Dillon, who has neurofibromatosis, started this year’s race and the 1,000 runners who took to the start line were truly inspired by his words before the race.

“The event also raises funds for Frome Activities and Sports Trust (FAST), a community sports facility planned in the future for Frome.

“The organising team is very grateful to all of the event’s sponsors, particularly leading sponsors Care UK, Old Mill Financial Planners, The Sound Foundation, and Rossetti House.”
