A THREE-generation family team has taken on the opportunity to transform ‘The Masons Arms’ in Frome back to a traditional pub with the vision of making it ‘a great local, for great locals’.
Steve Jackman alongside his father Geoff and son Drew were offered the opportunity to take over the current restaurant with the vision of transforming it back to a traditional pub.
Originally, the pub was set up as a restaurant that sells beer, however the team want to bring the atmosphere of a pub to the forefront but also include hearty pub food.
Steve Jackman said, “I want people to think. ‘Why would I not want to go there?’ rather than ‘why would I want to go there’. We want to give the pub its identity back with a good country-feel pub that does good hearty, non-pretentious pub food that locals will come and enjoy.
“We have already started on the back-of-house modifications ready for the new-style pub and now have three TV screens, when previously there was only one, and we will be showing live sport on BT sports. We will be bringing back the pool table, dart board, quiz nights, a cribbage league and are in the process of looking into having live music nights.
“We have also brought in new drinks on tap including Wadworths 6X and Strongbow Dark Fruits with plans to reveal more in the future. We have been speaking to the locals and they all seem excited about the plans and are liking what they are seeing so far.
“It’s important to keep the pub clean and tidy, keep the cellar well stocked and then we will start to see regular clientele as well as brand new faces.”
The pub is open Monday-Saturday from 12pm-11pm and Sundays from 12pm-10pm with traditional Sunday roasts available from 12pm-3pm. Booking is recommended; to book a table call 01373 461400 or email info@themasonsarmsfrome.co.uk.
Their brand new menus will be launched on Friday 24th August, just in time for the Bank Holiday weekend.
