FROME Bridge Club held a strawberries and cream bridge event on Monday 16th July which was judged to be a great success.
Marianne Lewis, of Frome Bridge Club said, “Committee member, Yvonne Kirby, organised the strawberries and cream, sourcing fresh strawberries directly from Cheddar. The whole club agreed the catering was excellent. Monday evenings in Frome are generally regarded as offering quite series bridge, but a lot of laughter could be heard coming out of Wesley Church Hall during the evening.
“The main purpose, of course, was to have fun, and enjoy the strawberries and cream, but another hope was that some of the people who attend the more informal bridge sessions, on a Thursday morning, could be tempted to come along and find out what it’s like to play against some of the more experienced bridge club members. This too was a success, with many people attending the Monday night bridge for the first time. In all, 44 people turned up – a record for a Monday night.
“There were two pairs of winners – Mike Porteous and Don Burgess; and Frank Coltman and Colin Simcox. Bottles of wine were given to the winners.”
Frome Bridge Club holds sessions twice a week, on Monday evenings and Thursday mornings. More information can be found at www.bridgewebs.com/frome
