FROME town council is holding a series of fun summer activities where people can learn more about the local wildlife – as well as well as the benefits of supporting biodiversity.
The Community Wildlife Mapping Project is proving to be a huge success, with more than 1,200 observations logged across Frome.
One observation point is Rodden Meadow, where visitors can take part in the Big Butterfly Count and Wildlife Mapping event and learn some easy ways to help pollinating insects.
Enthusiasts can submit their final readings to 2022’s Big Butterfly Count.
Participants will meet at the Roundhouse on Monday 22nd August and/or Thursday 25th August.
Talks start from 11am on how to make our gardens friendlier to smaller creatures.
Mayor, cllr Sara Butler said, “After so many brilliant submissions from community members to our brilliant wildlife count, we wanted to give something back.
“These wonderful sessions in combination will give people in Frome the chance to learn more about our insect life, as well as develop new skills in pond dipping and making green spaces wildlife-friendly.”
On the days there will be an opportunity to join in a pollinator-themed picnic, entitled Come Dine with Bee, on the Old Showfield.
Another option is lunch with a twist, which will take place from 11.30am. Participants can learn how the connection between our food to our natural world helps us better understand how we can help.
Visitors can take along their own food and share details about their research.
There will also be an investigation into pondlife, with teaching on how to pond-dip whilst learning about the amphibians and insects lurking in the water.
