An incident in which a child was injured after a swing became detached at Frome’s Old Showfield has been reported to police.
The incident happened on the afternoon of Tuesday 18th August, when the swing chain broke after a bolt was removed sometime between Monday 17th August, when a safety check was carried out, and the time of the incident.
The child needed hospital treatment following the incident.
Frome Town Council said all play equipment is inspected weekly and the swing had been checked on Monday, with no issues identified.
Town Clerk Peter Wheelhouse said it appeared that something had occurred after the inspection and before the incident.
He said, “As a precautionary measure, our Ranger team have removed the swing while we carry out further investigations and look at ways to make the fixings more secure. The swing will only be reinstalled once we are completely satisfied that it is safe to do so.”
The council is encouraging residents to report incidents of anti-social behaviour, vandalism or suspicious activity to Avon and Somerset Police.
A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said, “If anyone has information about this incident, please contact us online, on 101, or at one of our enquiry offices, using the reference number 5226236230.”
