More than 3,000 people attended Frome’s annual Children’s Festival, which featured more than 30 activities for families..
The festival was held in the town centre on 19th July and was organised by family charity Purple Elephant.
Activities included crafts, animals, games, theatre, accessible sports, stories and more, with highlights including animals from Twinnies Petting Farm, magic and comedy from balloon funnyman Dave Hickory and a giant climbing wall provided by Wiltshire Outdoor Learning.
Children’s Festival founder Sue Willis said, “It lifts our hearts to hear a love of playing together. This day absolutely could not happen without so much support.
“Families delighted in nature and forest activities, bugs, dens, science games and BMX, as well as a myriad of creative resources turned into almost anything a child could imagine.
“Many, young and old, were glad of the opportunity to relax listening to stories in the shade.”
The event also featured accessible sports from Nova Sports, with one parent describing the activities as a “real eye-opener”.
The dad said, “The best thing about it all was the accessible sports. The opportunity for children who have never had to use a wheelchair to experience and share; that was a real eye-opener. It was such a learning experience, to develop understanding of another child’s world. Amazing.”
Purple Elephant thanked the volunteers, activity providers, sponsors and supporters who helped make the festival possible, including Frome’s Rotary Clubs, the National Lottery Communities Fund, Frome Town Council, Cheese and Grain staff and trustees, the army cadets, Asda and Lidl.
The charity, which provides specialist family support throughout the year, is now seeking business sponsors to help continue its work supporting children and families.
