FROME officially kicked off the festive season last week as thousands of people took to the streets for the Christmas Extravaganza and the switching on of the town’s Christmas lights.
A large crowd braved the weather and filled the streets for the ‘Snow Ball’ themed Extravaganza that this year offered something for everyone. There were free activities for the children at Frome Library and a chance to meet Santa at the PAC Christmas Grotto in the Westway.
Frome Symphony Orchestra as well as local bands and choirs accompanied a special projection onto local buildings of work by local artists, illustrators and photographers.
Many revellers embraced the masquerade ball theme and dressed in ball gowns, suits and flamboyant evening wear, although rain coats took priority for a lot of people!
Ball organiser Tasmin Head said, “We would like to thank the people of Frome for getting behind the event, dressing up and joining in the fun.
“The projections around town were a real success with artists showing original and innovative work specially created for the event. In total we had over 250 musicians and singers involved on the night in choirs, bands and as part of Frome Symphony; also many more people joined in the Community Carols with Frome Town Youth Band and Frome Area Christians Together (FACT). The whole event would not have been possible without the input of all these creative people and a real sense of Frome community spirit.”
Cllr Peter Macfadyn said, “I thought it was a brilliant evening and a great way to start the festive season. It was great to see so many people come together, despite the weather.
“For me the highlight was the projections, they were excellent. And also our very own talented musicians entertaining the crowds, they did a great job.”
