In the first match of the Somerset County League, defending Champions Clarrie took on local club Purnell from Paulton.
Despite a slow start trailing by five shots after five ends, Clarrie came back to hold a 10 shot advantage after 10 ends, this was then increased to 25 shots after 15 ends. Clarrie held on to this lead to take wins on all four rinks accruing an eventual 34 shot advantage. The highest scoring rink was skipped by Mick Maslen winning by 15 shots.

Graham loses out in defence of his premier 3s title: Clarrie’s Graham Shadwell travelled to Swale Bowls Club (Kent) to compete in the qualifiers of the Premier 3’s National Open Singles, a short format of the game where 3 bowls are played in 3 ends of 3 sets. Graham, who currently holds the National Title, won his first round game against Adur’s (Hove) Scott Edwards 2-0, but then lost out to Commonwealth Games Gold Medallist Ellen Faulkner (City of Ely) in the second round.
CLARRIE LADIES OFF TO A GOOD START IN OVER 60’S NATIONAL
Mason Trophy – Preliminary Round – Ladies National Over 60’s Inter-Club 2 Rink Knockout – Clarrie Dunbar 41 – Purnell ‘B’ 31: Saturday 11th October, 10.00am – one rink home and one rink away.
Purnell started the fixture well taking a 7 shot advantage after 10 ends (21-14). The next five ends were decisive in Clarrie’s victory with the game being completely turned around by Clarrie’s Ladies, the away team gained 8 shots and the home team gained 6 shots to swing the score from 7 down to 7 up; 31-24 after 15 ends.
This lead was held on to with Clarrie eventually winning by 10 shots.

CLARRIE MEN’S LOSE OUT IN THEIR OVER 60’S NATIONAL
National Over 60’s Double Rink – First Round – Men’s Over 60’s Inter-Club 2 Rink Knockout – Clarrie Dunbar B 41 – Thornbury 43: Thursday 9th October, 2.00pm – one rink home and one rink away. Thornbury started well and were 31-15 up after 10 ends, Clarrie then started a spirited comeback to level the tie 41-41 going into the last end. Thornbury then dug deep to take a shot home and away and win by two.
