STUDENTS at Frome College have received a generous donation of £5,000 from local quarry company, Wainwright & Co for the school’s Greenpower racing team.
The school report, “The team, called ‘Footsprint’ is taking part in Greenpower – an engineering initiative to get more people interested in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths) subjects and careers. Greenpower also promotes a strong sense of teamwork, with members having to design and build a kit car that they will race. This car is powered by electricity, with the event encouraging sustainability and the use of electric motor vehicles.
“With this funding, the team has been able to buy the kit, and necessary equipment to build the car. As well as this, the team is currently researching options and ideas for the car’s bodywork. They expect to be able to start racing their first event in September, at the Castle Combe circuit, with hopes to race in the final.
“On Tuesday 18th May, we welcomed Peter Barkwill, CEO of John Wainwright & Co, and his PA Joni Stoker to meet the student team. We would like to thank Wainwrights for their generosity, and our families for their contributions and support with the Greenpower project. We will keep you updated on progress.”
