THIS year’s Frome Window Wanderland has been hailed as a ‘dazzling success’ by the organisers, who have said they are ‘proud of the town’s creativity, ingenuity and love.’
From Friday 1st to Monday 4th March, residents of Frome lit up displays in their windows for others to wander around and enjoy.
“We would like to give a huge thank you to everyone who has taken part,” says one of the organisers Tori Allison.
“From those who took part in our workshops, made a window, or walked the trail, we’d also like to thank the local businesses that sponsored us, Frome Town Council for the grant and all the community groups and schools that got involved. In fact, thank you to anyone who has been involved! We are so thrilled that Frome has once again proved what a wonderful community it is to live in. We hope to see you all again next year!”
The final total of windows that were decorated was 223. “It was just incredible,” says organiser Katie Marshall. “We literally couldn’t have done this event without our amazing participants and we’ve been blown away by how everyone thoroughly embraced the spirit of the event. Houses and businesses all over the town took part and we’ve had amazing feedback about how being creative helped so many people get through the last of these dark winter months. The impact on people’s mental health is really positive, which is fantastic.”
If you missed wandering the event do not worry; you can see a selection of photos from the various Frome Window Wanderlands that have taken place since 2018 by visiting Black Swan Arts.
Organiser Susie Temple explains, “We have an exhibition running in the Round Tower at Black Swan Arts until the end of March. We invited everyone who has ever participated to take part and we got a great response. It’s fascinating to find out what inspired the windows; some of the stories are really moving.
“We also have contributions from the Inside Out art trail, which ran in conjunction with our event; they had everything from six-foot projections on building walls to theatre performances in windows, all created by mother artists in Frome. You can pop into The Round Tower anytime that Black Swan Arts is open, so do come in and take a look. The exhibition is a great celebration of community art and an exciting opportunity for people from all backgrounds to have their work displayed in an art gallery.”
