Around £1,500 was raised for Frome Carnival at its annual Fun Day, which brought fairground rides, stalls and entertainment to Victoria Park.
The event took place on Saturday 15th August after the original June date was postponed due to unsafe and stormy weather.
Despite the hot weather, the event attracted a good turnout, with organisers reporting a successful day.
The event also included the annual Bonniest Baby competition and the selection of the new Carnival Royalty.
Rowan Neville won the 0-9 months category, with Dotty Gould as runner-up. Leo Cassidy won the 9-18 months category, with Alyna Whittaker as runner-up.
The new Carnival Royalty are Ambassador Saffron, Prince Monty and Princess Lexi.
Money raised at last year’s carnival collection was also presented to three local organisations.
We Hear You (WHY), a cancer support charity, received £750, Frome Musical Theatre Company received £500 and Keyford Hedgehog Rescue and Rehab received £250.
The Fun Day’s dog show had to be cancelled because of the hot weather.
One of the organisers, Mandy Morgan, said the decision was disappointing but necessary to protect the animals’ welfare.
“We are absolutely thrilled to say that we managed to raise approximately £1,500, which is considerably more than our 2025 fete,” she said.
“Although very disappointing the decision to cancel our dog show was most definitely the right thing to do. The safety of our fur babies is of the utmost importance and their wellbeing must come first.”
She thanked the traders, stallholders, community groups, carnival committee members and local people who supported the event, as well as the Rotary and DAK teams for helping with setting up and closing down.
The carnival team will continue fundraising ahead of this year’s carnival, including selling raffle tickets at the next Independent Market in the Westway Precinct.
The team will also sell ducks for its Duck Race in October, while entry forms for the September carnival procession will be available.
The Frome Carnival will take place on 26th September. The children’s procession will not take place this year, but organisers hope it will return in 2027 for the carnival’s centenary year.
