Somerset Council’s Executive Committee meets on Wednesday 23rd in Frome Town Hall to consider selling Saxonvale to an identified preferred bidder, following a tender process and after last year’s agreement that Mayday would buy the site did not proceed.
The council aims to get Saxonvale developed as well as possible, as soon as possible, after decades of dereliction and this is a vital decision for Frome, which we have to get right. So, I am looking into how we can get the best outcome for the economic, social and environmental wellbeing of Frome, as well as the best consideration for the council.
It is also time to have your say on travel improvements – the ‘Frome Area Movement and Place Plan’ is being created to identify what needs to improve to help people travel around Frome and the surrounding parishes better, by Frome Town Council (with Somerset Council) and to help make improvements actually happen. But it needs help from everyone to identify the improvements that are needed, so please take the survey and identify what needs to change on the interactive map by 30th September.
Finally, there is an opportunity to help make open spaces open again. The open spaces in the Mendip Drive area, provided for when housing was built in the 1960s/70s, were for some reason never transferred to the council and over the last year the land was put up for sale/auction in separate plots by previous owners. The current owners of one fenced off area have announced they are prepared to put a majority of their land back on sale to the community, so this is an opportunity – if enough people help, this land could be bought and made accessible to the community once again.
I am keen to hear from anyone who could be interested in helping on these issues. So please see further details and how to get in touch on my website https://adamboyden.mycouncillor.org.uk/.
