FROME resident and one half of Settlers Stores on Cheap Street, Zara d’Abo, is setting off on the trip of a lifetime to ride 320 miles across the Namibian desert to raise funds and awareness for Save the Rhino Namibia.
The 10 day trip starts in Windhoek, the capital of Namibia, on Tuesday 17th April – the team of 20 cyclists will cycle up to 60kms a day, sleep in tents in the bush and track some rhinos while they are there.
Northeast Namibia is home to the largest free-ranging black rhino population in the world. Save The Rhino Namibia monitor this population, recording the rhinos’ ecology and behaviour.
Recently they have been forced to step up anti-poaching measures, even setting up a camel unit to help rangers travel vast areas that cannot be reached by vehicle.
‘Sudan’, the last northern white Rhino male on the planet, died last month in Kenya. If you want to donate and help Zara reach her sponsorship target of £3,000 please visit: https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/ZaradAbo
