Frome Festival has announced an exciting line-up for this year with over 200 events planned over ten days in July.
“Things have been busy at festival HQ whilst we have been putting together an amazing programme for you to enjoy this year,” say the festival organisers.
“From Friday 7th – Sunday 16th July, Frome will come alive with music, art and culture as the festival returns for its 22nd year. The festival aims to celebrate the best of Frome, with events and activities taking place in so many places and spaces across the town – from venues and galleries to pubs and parks.
“Early headliners announced includes a stellar comedy line up starring Miles Jupp and Sophie Duker, big music acts including Asian Dub Foundation and Newton Faulkner, and fascinating talks including John Hegley who presents Biscuits of Destiny and celebrated historian William Dalrymple, who will give this year’s annual Bob Morris lecture.
“Alongside regular fixtures of the festival such as the Food Feast, Hidden Gardens and Open Art Trail, this year’s programme celebrates the creative life of local poet Crysse Morrison with the inaugural Festival Poetry Competition, presented by world renowned stand-up Poet and Comedian Elvis McGonagall.
“If you would like to enter a poem in the Crysse Morrison Prize for Poetry, full details can be found on the festival website. We have some fabulous prizes which have been generously donated by Cooper Hall.
1st Prize – £200 plus a Three Day Writers Retreat
2nd Prize – £100 plus a Three Day Writers Retreat
3rd Prize – £75 plus a Three Day Writers Retreat
Local Prize (5 miles of Frome) – £75 plus a Three Day Writers Retreat
“At the heart of the festival is a programme of free and low-cost events generously supported by the National Lottery Community Fund. With accessible activities taking place every day of the festival, more people than ever before will be able to experience the joys of live music, art, literature and theatre, as well as a busy programme for families and younger children.
The festival has always championed Frome’s thriving amateur arts groups, and this year’s programme is no different with events run by Frome Writers Collective, Frome Drama Club and Frome Symphony Orchestra. This year’s festival also features ‘Ring Out’ – a fascinating project exploring Frome’s churches and their bells, which has become the inspiration for this year’s brochure artwork designed by local illustrator Sholto Walker.
“The full Frome Festival 2023 listings will go live in May 2023, with general booking launching later that month – you can find out more by going to www.fromefestival.co.uk.”
