TWO extreme fundraising adventures will be undertaken to raise funds for Fair Frome this spring, by supporters of the charity.
Emily Denham will be taking part in the Marathon des Sables in April – a gruelling, multi-stage adventure involving 251 km of running across one of the world’s most inhospitable environments, the Sahara Desert – while James Nevitt will be cycling from John o’Groats to Land’s End in May.
Emily said, “I am undertaking this challenge to mark my 40th birthday. That means my 50th birthday challenge will mostly involve gin and chocolate!”
Emily is raising money for several charities, one of which is Fair Frome; the others are Springboard Nursery and the Sirona Foundation hydro appeal.
James, now also in his 40th year, wants to mark the moment with more than just a birthday cake and candles.
On the 29th April he will be cycling solo from Dunnet Head, the most northern UK point, to John o’Groats and then through the length of Great Britain to Land’s End.
James said, “This is going to be the biggest challenge I’ve undertaken and the current cold weather can knock enthusiasm for camping in the wilderness, but riding for Fair Frome is a great motivator and I can’t wait to get packed, climb on the train and set off.”
Fair Frome works closely with local support agencies on a number of projects supporting people in need in the town, including running a food bank, furniture bank, regular community lunch events and the current Access for All initiative, which is designed to raise awareness and bring about access improvements in the town and its venues.
Bob Ashford, chair of trustees of Fair Frome said, “We are thrilled that there are local people supporting us through such exciting endeavours! We will be following their progress with great interest and wish them both well on their travels.”
