Local charity Fair Frome, which runs the food bank, furniture bank and other projects designed to meet the needs of those in crisis, has just announced the continuing financial support of local restaurant Bistro Lotte.
Fair Frome report, “This is the second year they have sponsored the ‘Holiday Hunger’ and ‘Food at Five’ schemes with a cheque for £6,000. Holiday Hunger was started last year following a request from a local headteacher who was concerned that schoolchildren who received free school meals were not getting these during school holidays and were going hungry as a result. Since Christmas, the scheme has fed almost 400 children and parents during the holidays. As a result of the obvious need, Fair Frome started its Food at Five scheme which runs three times per week in three areas of the town with the highest deprivation indices. The delicious and nutritious meals are free for those on benefits or low incomes with a small charge for those who aren’t and are open to anyone – single young people over 16, street homeless, families and senior citizens. Since May when the scheme began, 250 people per month have attended, with well over half on benefits. We would also like to thank local company, Marston Foods, for donating 100 desserts every week for our Food at Five meals; this makes a huge difference to our budget.”
Bob Ashford chair of trustees said, “We can’t thank Bistro Lotte enough for their generous and continuing support. Both Holiday Hunger and Food at Five have highlighted the acute needs of people in the town who struggle to feed their families on a daily basis. Together, the schemes ensure that hot and nutritional meals are available three times per week all year to those that need them. They have also been successful in bringing together local communities to eat and talk together and are fully inclusive. Whilst they are run by our team of volunteers and the wonderful Katy Harris as our chef, we do need funding to ensure they are sustainable and this will help immensely.”
Lotty Evans for Bistro Lotte said, “Bistro Lotte is committed to supporting this vital and incredible cause within the town. Fair Frome do a wonderful job and provide such an important service to the community.”
