The annual Mendip Rocks! Festival is now over half-way through six weeks of geological treats, helping to reveal the story of the fascinating rocks that have created the Mendip Hills.
Mendip Rocks Festival, now in its sixth year, aims to engage the public with Somerset’s geology.
Organiser Adel Avery says, “It’s a great chance to see some of Mendip’s best-kept geological secrets, with many events being held at sites that are not usually open to the general public, and guided walks in this special landscape. The festival offers something for everyone from family fun days, stone carving workshop, geological fieldwork, and field trips.”
There is still a week of events to go, with activities including tours of Whatley Quarry, a family fun day at Cheddar Gorge, and a drystone walling workshop. For details go to www.mendiphillsaonb.org.uk/events
