Fresh new look for popular Frome cafe

A cafe in Frome has installed a new bespoke counter as part of a recent refurbishment project with a local furniture company.

Rye Bakery, on Whittox Lane, has introduced the new counter to better showcase its popular range of pastries, sourdough breads and freshly made food.

The counter was designed by Rye Bakery owner Owen Postgate in partnership with Somer Furniture, a local company that makes sustainable cabinetry.

Based in an old church on Whittox Lane, Rye Bakery is approaching its tenth year.

The café’s general manager, Fi O’Brien, said, “The new contemporary counter, with its clean lines and simple design, works beautifully against the original features and character of the building, while also opening up the space.

“The new counter has made such a difference. It gives us a great way to show off everything the bakery makes, from our sourdough breads and pastries to the sandwiches we prepare fresh every morning.

“The produce has always been at the heart of Rye, so it’s brilliant to finally have a space that really celebrates it. It’s also made service much smoother and easier for customers, particularly during our busy weekends.”

The bakery is open Tuesday to Friday from 8.30am to 4pm and on Saturdays and Sundays from 9am to 4pm.

Brunch and lunch are served from 9am to 3pm, alongside tea, coffee, soft drinks, pastries and cakes.

“We have plenty of vegan and vegetarian choices, as well as gluten-free options,” Fi added. “There are classics like a bacon sandwich, alongside things like our organic salt beef sandwich and changing daily specials.”
