Participants in the FROGS wildlife walk at East Woodlands on Sunday 9 June were relatively fortunate with the weather.
FROGS report, “A few light showers didn’t dampen our enjoyment of the beautiful woods, although the cool and cloudy day did nothing to entice the multitudes of butterflies and moths we had seen there in previous years.
“Eve Tigwell led a large group of us, including eight children who all seemed to enjoy hunting for beetles, caterpillars, bees and damselflies. We spotted a small blue and a forest brown butterfly; heard nuthatches, a wren, blackcap, blue tits, great tits, blackbird and woodpecker; and we found hedge woundwort, common spotted orchids, ragged robin, herb Robert, lesser trefoil, red and white campion and speedwell.
“Our thanks go to Eve for a great afternoon.
“The next wildlife walk is at Coleford, looking at wildflowers with Veryan Conn, on Sunday 30th June. Meet outside Coleford church (BA3 5NG) for a 2.30pm start.”
