FROME business employee, Ryan McKee, won Business Apprentice of the Year with City of Bath College in the category of IT and Business Studies, at a ceremony which took place on 24th October.
Ryan, who undertook a year long apprenticeship with workhub operator Forward Space, after deciding not to go to university, is now a full-time employee at the company. He also completed Geography, English and IT A-levels and is now setting up his own business which organises events and workshops to support young people and school leavers exploring the future job market.
Ryan said, “I was pleasantly surprised to receive this award! I really enjoyed the evening and would like to thank my tutors and The City of Bath College for their support. I’d also like to thank Gavin and Rebecca of Forward Space, who have mentored me throughout my apprenticeship and encouraged me with my own business idea – helping other students who might not know what they want to do when finishing school.”
As well as pursuing his own business aspirations; Ryan now oversees the technical facilities at the workhub.
Workspace manager Rebecca Krzyzosiak explained, “Ryan has played an integral role in our IT security and solutions, driving and diversifying our digital and virtual services.
“We’re thrilled he was acknowledged by the college for his hard work and we have no doubt he’ll continue to impact on our business as we grow our current space and set up other regional workhubs for SMEs throughout the South West.”
