Frome charities receive free storage support from local firm Giant Storage

Two Frome-based community projects have received a boost after a local storage company offered them free facilities for a year.

Giant Storage, a family-run self-storage and removals business based at The Cotton Works on the edge of town, has provided 20ft storage containers to Fromebase and OpenStoryTellers as part of its ongoing charity support scheme.

Fromebase, an initiative of Edventure, operates as a community DIY store, working with local contractors and businesses to rescue surplus building materials that would otherwise go to landfill. These materials are then sold at significantly reduced prices to help make home improvements more affordable, particularly for those affected by rising living costs.

The additional storage space will also give a helping hand to Frome’s Share Shop, providing much-needed extra space for the project to grow.

OpenStoryTellers is a Frome-based charity that works with learning disabled artists to help them create and share their stories through the arts, media and self-advocacy. Over the years, the organisation has staged shows, run festival events and made award-nominated films, all while creating genuine work opportunities for people with learning disabilities.

The new storage space will allow the charity to safely store its growing collection of artwork and props, freeing up room for future creative work.

Giant Storage was founded by former commercial pilot Henry Langdon and has expanded from a single container into a network of sites across Wiltshire and Somerset, including Frome, Salisbury and Yeovil. The company already supports charities in Salisbury, including Amesbury Baby Bank and Old Sarum and Longhedge Pantry and the offer of free storage is now open to eligible charities and community groups across all three of its main locations.
