Frome Cricket enjoyed a successful Saturday, 4th August, as all three senior sides recorded victories.
The 1st XI hosted Chard CC looking to consolidate 2nd position in the West of England premier league Somerset division and keep the pressure on leaders North Perrott. Home skipper Sanger won the toss and elected to bat on a green wicket at Frome.
Chard made an early breakthrough, removing Lett for three, but the home side recovered well through P Sanger, and the Croker brothers with younger brother Sam scoring a brilliant 62 not out in difficult circumstances as Frome finished on 211 all out.
In reply, a crazy 15 overs unfolded as the visitors were dismissed for 52, with Tom Barton and Reece Croker both taking 5 wickets each with devastating bowling.
The 2nd XI travelled to Long Sutton, looking to return to winning ways and help secure their division 2 status of the Somerset Cricket League for 2019. With the hosts batting first on a low wicket, Frome bowled tightly and dismissed the hots for 136, Knight the pick of the bowlers taking 4 wickets.
In reply, Frome too found scoring to be difficult but an anchoring 46 from opener and skipper Potter, with cameos from Unwin and N Dredge, saw Frome home and a maximum 35 points.
The 3rd XI returned to home ground at Mells, hosting Uphill Castle 3rd XI in a game that would see a win for either side push them up into the promotion positions in division 7N of the Somerset Cricket League. Frome got off to a flier with Lamb finding the boundary with ease, backed up by the experience of Knight. Following the departure of Lamb for 36, Cantrell took up the challenge, scoring freely before being dismissed for 41. Frome got to a total of 201-8 off 40 overs.
In reply, tight bowling from Frome restricted the visitors, leading to the run rate increasing after each over. Ford made the breakthrough with a smart caught and bowled, following this the spin combination of Ford and Pearson tightened the screw on Uphill and wickets started to fall regularly, with all the bowlers picking up wickets. Bracher, Cox and Cantrell picked up two apiece as Uphill finished on 157-9, giving Frome 34 points in their bid for promotion.
