FROME DIAMONDS 38 DEVIZES KITES 44
Diamonds faced Kites, another team who had got promoted to Premier League, so they knew it would be a close affair.
Starting slowly, Kites took an early lead but Diamonds started to find their form, turning over ball and this was duly converted by Lauren Wilkinson and Amelia Pulvertaft in the shooting circle. At quarter time they had taken the lead to be ahead by 7. Georgie Southwell, Meg Young and Georgina Guy in the centre court worked tirelessly, never letting Kites have an easy ride. Diamonds held on to the lead at half time, but it reduced to 5 goals as Kites found their shooting range.
Changes at half time hampered Diamonds initially as they adapted, whilst Kites brought on a tall shooter who challenged the Diamonds’ defenders of Emily Pascoe and Rosie McMahon. Diamonds were clinging on and held just the one goal advantage at the end of the third stanza. Working hard as a team and preserving their lead in the last stanza just did not work out for Diamonds as they fell away to lose by 6 goals, losing out on a bonus point by the one goal. A bitter pill to swallow for the team but a good lesson learnt.
The Dennis Maps Player of The Match went to Georgina Guy whilst Meg Young picked up the Players’ Player award.
FROME DIAMONDS 38 HOLT BLACK 55
After a good warm up, Diamonds started well and matched Holt goal-for-goal for the early part of the match. With solid passing by the centre court players of Georgina Guy and Meg Young, Diamonds, who are sponsored by Dennis Maps, looked as though this match would not be a one-sided affair, as Holt are topping the Premier League table. Unfortunately, Diamonds did fade, but due to outstanding shooting from Lauren Wilkinson, and some great intercepts from the defence of Bev Chapman and Amelia Pulvertaft at half time Diamonds were only losing by nine goals to be down by 25 16. Holt upped their intensity in the third stanza and some silly errors from Diamonds let Holt back into the match where they powered through to take the win. A hard match played in great spirits, Diamonds’ heads never dropped and they can take great heart from this result, even if it was a loss.
Player of the match and Players’ Player award went to Lauren for another fine shooting display, making excellent front cuts into the circle and general all-round good play.
