As part of the Frome Festival, the Cheese & Grain farmers’ market, on Saturday 14th July, will be inviting everyone along to meet local farmers and food producers, and try out some tasters, whilst enjoying local folk music from Tommy Young of Oak & Thorn.
The banjo-playing singer performs both traditional songs and original material infused with references to his native Coleford and surrounding villages.
Organisers of the farmers’ market say, “As we’re in Somerset, we will of course have a splendid selection of cheeses including those from farmer’s market favourite Wootton Organic Dairy, with their sheep’s cheeses and organic yoghurts. Special guests at the market are Gould’s Farm whose Cheddars have been winning awards for over 50 years, including this year’s World Cheese Event! Their cheeses include traditional cheddars of all strengths and flavours, including the infamous ‘Fiery Fred’ for those who enjoy the ‘kick’ but are also famous for their own churned creamy butter.
“Keeping it traditional are Honey Pot Farm, whose cider and apple juices from their Somerset smallholding have built up a strong following. Slighty more unusual, we also have ‘Stone Angel Medieval Ale’ delicious, complex, herb-infused old English amber ale, brewed in Bradford on Avon.
“The market itself is a celebration of local produce and a great introduction to the concept of choosing to support local farmers on a regular basis by coming and meeting with them – we hoped you’ll all get hooked!
“We meet at the Cheese & Grain on the second Saturday of each month all year round and at the Frome Independent on the first Sunday of the month March – December. For more information visit www.somerset farmersmarkets.co.uk or follow us on Facebook.”
