Frome friends to walk 50 km for local charity

Two Frome friends are preparing to lace up their trainers once again to take on an ultra-walking challenge for local charity Time is Precious.

David Wye, owner of Domesticare in Keyford, will be joined by his friend Elaine Keene for the 50 km event in London on 22nd August.

David and Elaine have completed a series of gruelling walks for charity over the years. During this challenge, they will be raising money for Time is Precious, which helps create a more comfortable and relaxed atmosphere for children in hospital or at home.

The volunteer-run charity has been operating since 2011. It was set up by Neil and Nicky Halford in memory of their son Ben, who died from cancer aged five.

Elaine said, “I heard Neil and Nicky talk at the local surgery where I work as a nurse and knew this was the charity we should support this year.”

The challenge follows others David and Elaine have completed, including a 26-mile walk along the Jurassic Coast to raise funds for Alzheimer’s and Dementia Support Services and the Macmillan Cancer Support ‘Mighty Hike’ event, where they walked 26 miles through the Monmouth Hills.
