Frome is putting the final preparations in place for its annual Half Marathon.
Entries for the event, which takes place on Sunday 19th July, are already high. Anyone wishing to take part is urged to get their entry in as soon as possible. Last year, the event sold out well before the day.
This year’s runners will be able to compete for a brand new opportunity to become the Queen or King of the Mountain.
Runners will be competing over three distances;: the half marathon, 10k or 5k. All events start at 10am. The event has already attracted many entries from local runners as well as those further afield, including the USA and Colombia.
Junior runners will also be able to take part in a fun 1k run, which will start shortly after the main races.
In previous years, spectators have come out in force onto Frome’s streets to cheer on the runners. It’s hoped that once again, residents will offer their enthusiastic support for all those taking part. In particular, the race organisers are still looking for marshals to help out at the event and welcome anyone who can spare a few hours to help out on the day. No experience is necessary and everything will be explained. For more information please contact Fran by email at marshalls@ fromehalfmarathon.co.uk or on 07908 284198.
Several road closures have been put into place to ensure that the event runs smoothly and safely. The route is divided into eight zones and shows the road closure times for each zone. Motorists are advised to refer to this in advance and to avoid entering and leaving Frome between 9.30am and 12.30pm on the day of the Half Marathon.
Georgie Starkie, race director said, “The support and cooperation given by local residents is never taken for granted. It is thanks to the support of runners, residents and local businesses that the Frome Half Marathon has become such a firm favourite on the local race calendar.”
Frome Half Marathon is grateful for the support of all its sponsors, without whom it would not be possible to stage such a successful event, particularly our main sponsors Old Mill, Gracewell Healthcare, Care UK, Sound Foundation Community Care and CH Contracting.
The Frome Half Marathon will continue to raise money for good causes, including the Frome Activities and Sports Trust (FAST), a charity that aims to provide a community resource for activities and sports groups in the town.
