Pre-season friendly: Saturday 25th July
Frome Town 3-0 Salisbury City
Frome Town delivered another victory in pre-season, this time against higher league opposition in Salisbury, as they ran out 3-0 winners in front of the Badgers Hill faithful.
Brian Dutton’s side fashioned a good chance to open the scoring ten minutes into the game when a cross came in from the left searching for Jaiden Bartolo but Kyle Phillips was very quick off his line to gather the ball.
The first Frome chance came in the 20th minute after a great ball from George Dowling to find Zack Ali down the left. The full-back continued his run into the box and his effort was a whisker past the far post.
Salisbury then hit the bar with a Harry Thomas header from a corner before the hosts opened the scoring two minutes before half-time. It was Archie Ferris with a neat pass into Zac Drew down the right and the number 10 showed great composure to poke the ball past Will Henry in goal to give the Dodge the lead going into the break.
The visitors did cause Danny Greaves’ team a scare at one point during the second half when Phillips had to make a smart save and then thankfully the Salisbury attacker blazed his effort over the bar when he had an open goal to fire at.
It was another strong performance in the second half from the Robins and just after the hour mark they were involved in a nice passing move where the ball was shifted out to the left for Sam Heal. His first-time cross found the head of substitute Sam Meakes but his header was just over the bar.
Three minutes later in the 64th minute David Duru after only being on the pitch for two minutes robbed the ball off the Salisbury defenders inside the penalty area before calmly finishing the ball past Henry at his near post to double the advantage for Frome.
Duru then almost got an assist for Josh Owers in the 71st minute, his curling attempt from distance just evading the top right corner.
Meakes then got the third goal seven minutes from the 90 when a through ball came into his path and he finished confidently from outside the box into the top corner to secure another victory for the Dodge in pre-season
Up next is the final pre-season game for Frome against Weymouth next Saturday before the season gets under way at home to Wimborne Town the following weekend.
