The Lions Club of Frome held its annual handover dinner at the Fox and Hounds Tytherington, where outgoing President Frank Collins presented the Chain of Office to Lion Mark Symes.
After a good meal, President Frank gave a speech thanking his fellow Lions and their partners for the wonderful support he had through his enjoyable year in office, and where had the time gone as the year has just flown by.
He also mentioned a few highlights of the year like the Sponsored Swim, Tree of Remembrance, Gentlemen’s sporting dinner, Golf day, the Fete held in Victoria Park, and gave a big thank you for all the club’s great fund raising efforts with a total in the region of £50,000 raised in his year.
In response, the new Lion President Mark Symes thanked Frank for his successful year. Mark said he was proud to be given the role of President and looked forward to continuing the excellent work the Lions undertake, in helping the local community and charities in the same way as before. He said the Lions Club was a friendly, fun bunch of people that worked hard for the good of others less well off.
New President Mark was born in Bridport, Dorset and has lived in Frome for nearly 35 years. Following a move to the area with his employers, one of the main four banks, he has spent time working in branches in Bath, and now works as a credit manager in Bristol. Previously he was a keen and active member of Frome Round Table for many years, serving also as Chairman. Mark joined the Lions Club of Frome in 2008.
A keen supporter of rugby, he follows local club Bath, where he is a season ticket holder. Additionally in his spare time he enjoys DIY, travel and quizzes.
The Frome Lions wish Mark well in this coming year.
