Over 20 men, women and children took part in the ‘Great British Spring Clean’ community litter picks at Stonebridge and Gypsy Lane.
At Stonebridge, volunteers worked for over an hour to clear rubbish from the stream corridor, green spaces and footpaths in Stonebridge, and on Gypsy Lane, on the old Showfield.
Councillor Adam Boyden who organised the litter picks said, “On Sunday the Gypsy Lane group spent the morning in the rain clearing out the ditches and hedges along the road from Bath Road crossroads to the rugby club and beyond. Together we collected dozens of bags of litter, several tyres, and came across a burnt out car.
“It was great to see the difference the clear ups made, and also great to see such good community spirit. There was such enthusiasm, we hope to organise more litter picks later this year.
“Thanks go to all the volunteers who helped, and to the ‘lone ranger’ litter pickers in the area who try and keep our streets and open spaces clean every week.”
