A new Frome-based internet radio station is to be launched featuring a number of home-grown local broadcasters.
Mix Tape Radio International, or MTRI, has been running in test mode since last August and is set to launch this month.
The station is the brainchild of two men; John ‘Kowalski’ Walton, an active member of The Frome Writers’ Collective and former presenter of ‘The Green Door‘ on Frome FM, and Thomas Stankiewicz, a travel advisor from Gelsenkirchen, Germany.
“Our intention,” said John, “is to give listeners and presenters as wide a range as possible, any genre, any language, and any location. Our current line-up includes shows from Germany, Australia, Ireland, South Africa, Spain, the USA, the UK and of course, Frome. This leaves a lot of the globe still to be included, so we are always on the lookout for new and interesting shows. Contact us with your ideas. A talk show, a keep fit class, a language course, music of practically any shape or form.”
The internet radio station is also home to a number of local Frome broadcasters, including Rob Way (with his popular Way Down Country show), Dawn Denton (who will be continuing her travel-based programmes) and Dave Watkins, whose show The Country Mile, airs first on MTRI every Monday at 6pm.
Dave said, “While I do miss the live studio experience, it is also great to have the freedom to share the show where I think it will find new listeners, it is all down to me. I can put the show together when I have some free time across the week, which is something all home-produced shows appreciate being able to do.
“The big thing with all of us who live in Frome and are broadcasting online, is that we would welcome locals to tune in; you can find Mix Tape Radio International on the Tune In app and this means you can listen to us wherever you are!”

The station is also available on TuneIn app for Android and Apple.
If you are interested in being part of this venture, John is available for a chat every Thursday at The Three Swans in King Street from 7pm to 8pm starting on the 22nd March, until the 12th of April.
