Frome man jailed for assaulting restaurant workers and drink driving

A man from Frome who abused workers at a service station before attempting to drive off whilst drunk has been jailed. 

Michal Korgul, 39, of Wyville Road, Frome, pleaded guilty to driving whilst disqualified, two counts of common assault, assault by beating, and failing to provide a specimen of breath. 

He was given a 35-week prison sentence when he appeared at Salisbury Magistrates Court on 23rd July. 

He was also disqualified from driving for 40 months and must pay £200 compensation to his victims. 

Shortly before 10pm on 21st July police were called to Burger King in Grenada Services, Warminster, where Korgul was intoxicated and being abusive towards staff by throwing items and spitting at them. 

Officers attended and spotted Korgul driving a vehicle in the car park, with a child inside. He refused a breath test and was arrested. The child was returned home. 

PC George Malin-Davis said, “On arrival at the scene, officers found Korgul was visibly intoxicated, his speech was slurred and he was unsteady on his feet. He was clearly in no fit state to be behind the wheel of a car, let alone in the company of a child. It does not bear thinking about what could have happened had police not been alerted and intervened. 

“I’d like to thank the victims and witnesses involved for their swift courage, resilience, and flexibility in working with us to gain evidence and ensure Korgul was charged and put before the courts immediately. 

“I am pleased that on this occasion; a custodial sentence has been given. Korgul targeted young female staff members who were just trying to do their job. His punishment reflects his total disregard for the law.”
