The top two teams of the premier division took to the court for the second time this season and after losing against Chippenham in the first match, Frome Stars, who are sponsored by Dennis Maps and Wessex Drains, were eager to show that they could beat them this time.
The game started slowly with both teams holding back slightly due to poor weather conditions. Despite this, there was some great court play throughout from Sheri Pleasants, Sophie Cox and Kate Smith, allowing the shooters opportunity for goals which resulted in a 5-goal lead for Frome after the first quarter.
The second quarter saw shooters Hannah Dredge and Georgia Cox double their goals to 16 to 10 from Chippenham and Frome continued to thrive knowing they were in the lead. Although the third quarter saw goals increase for both teams and the gap closing, Stars defenders Kathy Dredge and Sophie Garton worked together tirelessly to ensure they gained all the interceptions and rebounds they could.
The game was read well throughout the court, with Stars regaining control towards the end. The fourth quarter was tense for both teams, but unusually Stars managed to keep their cool and play the game at their own pace, aiming for possession to keep them in the lead and that is what they did to ensure the win. A fantastic team performance from Stars and incredible play from GA Hannah Dredge, earning herself Player of the Match and Players’ Player.
